John Atchison, Owner
John was born in Lexington, Kentucky and graduated from Centre College with a BA in economics and business management.
John has made many friends working for families, designing and building custom homes throughout central Kentucky. He also has many lifelong friendships he has built in the construction industry working on many projects and serving in industry organizations like The Home Builders Association of Lexington and The Lexington Board of Realtors.
John loves to ski in Utah whenever he gets a chance and is always ready for a game of golf. He is married to Diane and has 3 children Laura, Ann Hart, and David. He loves to travel and whenever the opportunity arises you can find him attending a UK football or basketball game.
John has always had an interest in helping those in need. He has established a consistent record of helping in his community through his church and through the many charitable organizations he has volunteered service in.
Steve Heller, Owner
Steve Heller, born in Chicago, became a southern boy when his family moved to Lexington, Kentucky in 1969. He put himself through University of Kentucky by being a DJ at Stingle’s Bar and putting together sound systems for friends.
Steve had a 20 year career in the floor covering and interiors business starting as a salesman and rising through the ranks to become president of the company before taking his first retirement in 1997. He joined John in his custom home business, assuming the role of inside operations to allow John to build wonderful homes. Steve became John’s partner in 2000. Steve & John have a great working relationship and a close personal friendship as well. Steve and his wife, Jennifer, who is also involved in the business, have three children; Hollis, Austin, and Max, who are all part of Atchison Heller.
Jennifer has lived in Lexington, Kentucky all her life, she came with Atchison Heller in the spring of 2002. She works part time in our office and handles payroll.
Hollis Heller Rigdon
Hollis Heller Rigdon joined Atchison Heller in the spring of 2013 after graduating from Clemson University. She assists Steve, John and Austin with scheduling and bidding jobs. Working closely with Atchison Heller’s marketing company, Hollis focuses on all things social media and also works with clients, their designers and Atchison Heller subcontractors. Hollis handles pricing and ordering, coordinating all components for Atchison Heller’s custom homes and remodels.
As a college student, Austin Heller began working part time at Atchison Heller cleaning job sites. After graduating from the University of Kentucky, he began a self-proclaimed all-things-construction education and has been recently named the Director of Quality Control. In this role, Austin oversees company consistency in all construction practices and coordinates upcoming and current jobs, working with architects, subcontractors, clients and supervisors.
Since 2008, Max Heller has worked with Atchison Heller, beginning as a high school and college student working part time cleaning and assisting Clyde with trim work and cabinet installation. After earning an Agriculture/Economics degree from the University of Kentucky, he worked for a year in the lumber supply business. Max joined Atchison Heller full time in 2015, and, in addition to supervising job sites, is involved on the front-end of projects estimating costs, and following up on new project inquiries.
David Atchison grew up around construction sites and Atchison Heller. As a toddler, David accompanied his father to job sites and began working part time at Atchison Heller at 15 years old. During college at the University of Kentucky, David worked flipping and remodeling houses. He came to Atchison Heller full time in 2015 and currently serves as a supervisor for custom homes and remodels. Though David’s goal has always been to follow in his father’s footsteps, David now has developed his own unique passion for the construction process and the quality Atchison Heller produces. He has become the voice behind the Atchison Heller Instagram page where he shares behinds the scenes and a look into the every day of the company.
Tammie joined Atchison Heller Construction as the Financial Manager in October of 2009. She works closely with Steve and John planning and directing our accounting activities and supervises their implementation. She has over 30 years experience in accounting and also owns a small bookkeeping firm located in Garrard County where she lives.
Norma lives in Lexington and has a beautiful daughter, Holly. They love spending time together and traveling. Norma started at Atchison Heller in 2004 as temporary help and several months later she was hired as a permanent employee. Norma handles all our Accounts Payable, our customer warranty and service issues and our rental division. She loves working with the homeowners and helping them to adjust to their new homes and lifestyles. This is not just a job, she feels we are a family that cares about what we do and how we do it.
Clyde has worked for Atchison Heller since 2006, after many years in the construction industry. While his main job is warranty service, he is a a jack of all trades. His main goal is to make our clients happy with their new homes.
Nihad is a supervisor and has worked at Atchison Heller since 1997. He believes the owners are ethical and abide by the highest standards in the industry. Nihad always goes the extra mile to ensure that our customers are completely satisfied.
Alex Ortiz joined Atchison Heller in 2017. He keeps the job sites consistently clean and organized for all of the supervisors.
As one of the newest members of the Atchison Heller team, Leslie Stoll Leer brings nearly ten years’ experience in retail building to the team. Leslie began her career at a local bank in Greenville, South Carolina after graduating from Clemson University where she studied Marketing. A Lexington native, Leslie joined the Atchison Heller team in April 2018 to facilitate client-vendor communications, help with selection management and focus on internal organization.
Recently married to her husband Courtland this past summer, Leslie enjoys spending time with her family, cooking, hiking and walking her dog, Toby.
